An indoor children’s playground is on track to open in Lockwood Neighborhood after Richardson’s City Plan Commission unanimously recommended approval for a special permit March 3.

The details

Kid-N-Play plans to open in a multitenant building at 506 Lockwood Drive, between Lockwood Distilling Company and Lizzie Bee’s Flower Shoppe. Owner Tiffany Long said the indoor playground is designed primarily for children ages 0-5, and will also provide comfortable spaces for parents and caregivers.

“Our mission is to create a safe, clean and engaging environment where young children can build confidence through play while parents have a comfortable place to connect, relax or send a few emails for work,” Long said.

According to city documents, the indoor playground will include climbing equipment, stairs, slides, a children’s climbing wall and a play area for toddlers. Kid-N-Play will also have a small party room and a mother’s nursing room.

“We want to be a gathering place for local organizations like the [Parent Teacher Association], a supporter of nearby businesses and a positive contributor to the economic vitality of Lockwood,” Long said.

Lockwood Distilling Company currently uses the 3,500-square-foot site for storage and special events but no longer needs the space, according to city documents.

What’s next

After the commission unanimously recommended approval for the special permit, the request will be considered by City Council.
