The Arlington Police Department recently celebrated the opening of a new storefront – or “cop shop” – in the southeast part of the city.

The Arlington City Council approved funding for the satellite office, which is located at 6516 New York Avenue, during the Fiscal Year 2025 budget cycle. This is the fourth cop shop that the Arlington Police Department has opened in the South District, which is the most widespread of all the police districts and spans from west of U.S. 287 to State Highway 360. The other satelitte offices are located inside the Parks Mall, at the Arlington Highlands, and in the southwest part of the city near U.S. 287 and Sublett Road.

The purpose of these cop shops is two-fold. First, they establish a more visible police presence in key areas of the city. Additionally, they provide the officers who patrol those areas a space where they can work and complete reports without having to travel back to the South District station.

“The cop shops really give our officers greater flexibility to spend more time in these areas, which is what we want,” said Chief of Police Al Jones. “They also show our residents and stakeholders in those areas that their police department is invested in them.”

Although the cop shop will be accessible to patrol officers 24/7, it will not be staffed to conduct public business. Members of the public seeking in-person assistance should still go to the lobby of the Ott Cribbs Public Safety Center at 620 W. Division St. in Downtown or to one of the Arlington Police Department’s three substation locations.
