If you’ve been around here long enough, you’ve heard someone proudly go on and on about something that would make zero sense to someone from outside of West Texas. Things that locals brag about here can sometimes sound…well..confusing, or even a little ridiculous, especially to visitors.

Let’s get into it…

Lubbock’s Weirdest Brags

Residents of the Hub City love to brag about how fast you can get anywhere in town. Outsiders shrug, but we love telling them, “You can get all the way across town in 15 minutes, dude.” I don’t think it’s making anyone move here faster, but I haven’t researched the numbers on that…

Another big one is parking. People brag about parking like it’s some kind of competitive sport. “Oh yeah, AND, you can park RIGHT IN FRONT of the place,” is a phrase you’ve heard your mom say recently. Don’t lie.

Then, there’s the pride people take in knowing someone who knows someone. Yep. It’s a stretch, but we don’t have much going on here. If your aunt was Buddy Holly’s cousin’s teacher, chances are, you’ve bragged all over town. You aren’t alone. (My grandmother was actually a friend of his sister. Really!)

We also love to brag about food staples that outsiders have never had the chance to fully appreciate. Quick tortilla runs. Local burger joints. Oh, and the fact that you can get perfect Mexican food from places that barely look like restaurants if you know where to go.

Finally, the class Lubbock brag: “The weather here isn’t that bad.”

Anybody who has lived through dust storms, sideways rain, and 40-degree temperature swings all in the same day probably shouldn’t be the most optimistic person on the planet. BUT, here we are! To give us ALL a little credit, we don’t really have snow, SO maybe the weather isn’t that bad…

It’s all part of Lubbock’s charm. The things we brag on may not sound like much, but to us, they are just a little extra proof that life here has its own sort of unique rhythm, or something…
