Texas A&M student builds huge social media following showcasing campus life, Aggieland

  • March 6, 2026

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) -He never took a campus tour. He chose Texas A&M because it offered the most scholarship money. And now, somehow, he’s one of the most recognized faces on a campus of more than 80,000 students.

Meet Salami the Aggie — a first-generation Aggie whose social media presence has surpassed 100,000 followers across platforms by doing something simple: showing student life at Texas A&M as it actually is.

It started with a fresh start

Coming into college, Salami set out to meet people and be more social.

“My goal was to be more extroverted, kind of start off as like a fresh new start,” he said. “Nobody knows who you are. So it’s up to you to build your identity from scratch.”

What began as a personal reinvention slowly turned into something bigger. Salami said he started interviewing fellow students just to have something to do — then shifted toward showcasing the university itself.

“I believe I have a personality,” he said. “It would be nice to interview students and see their reaction, give me something to do in my free time. So it started off with that, and then I started transitioning it into more showing about the school.”

From Houston to Aggieland — sight unseen

Salami grew up attending a small high school in Houston and graduated in the top 15% of his class. He is currently majoring in biomedical engineering — a detail that might surprise viewers more familiar with his comedic content.

He said he picked A&M without ever setting foot on campus.

“Without touring A&M, we just looked at it, and they gave the most money out of all my options,” he said. “And that’s what made me choose A&M. Never took a tour here, didn’t know anything about it.”

Traditions from his point of view

Salami’s videos walk viewers through Aggie traditions from the perspective of someone experiencing them for the first time. He said the reactions are part of what makes the content work.

“Some of them are eye-opening, some of them are heartfelt, and some of them are just interesting or funny in some ways,” he said.

Fans find him on and off campus

Because of his content, Salami became one of the most recognized people in Aggieland.

Viewers, young and old, enjoy his content, and he says those moments keep him going on harder days.

“Some days when I’m down, I feel like I’m just not in the right spirit,” he said. “I come to campus. Sometimes someone says, ‘I love your videos,’ or ‘I chose A&M because of your videos. You really showed me a different side of A&M that A&M themselves don’t show.’ It’s like more of an authentic side — how a student sees it, more natural and real.”

Finding your bubble

For students who feel lost in a university of over 80,000, Salami has a straightforward message.

“You think it’s so many how can I find something to do? How can I find my group?” he said. “You just really got to find the small bubble in the big bubble of A&M.”

Salami the Aggie will graduate from Texas A&M University in May with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering. He has also applied to pursue a master’s degree at the university. Salami said he is beginning to shift his content to appeal to a broader audience as he prepares to spend less time on campus.
