SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – UT Tyler softball saw their six game LSC win streak fall on Friday after two close games against #7 Angelo State on the road.

GAME ONE: UT Tyler 1 | #7 Angelo State 6

The Patriots battled close throughout the contest, but a late rally from the Rambelles provided the difference in game one.

UT Tyler would turn to their ace Kearston Gooch to start game one of the day, and she delivered a solid performance to get things rolling. She worked a 1-2-3 first inning with a pair of strikeouts to start her outing.

In the bottom of the second, a triple and a groundout led to the first run of the game, but Gooch settled in with a groundout and a lineout to end the frame will just one run. She worked around trouble again in the third that involved a walk and a double to put up another zero, and then posted her third strikeout of the game in the fourth on her way to another scoreless frame.

The Patriots offense was hitless through three, but that changed in the top of the fourth as Dezirae Lopez doubled to left center. A hit by pitch, fielder’s choice, and walk would load the bases, and Kaelyn Lerma drove home the first run for UT Tyler with a sacrifice fly to even the game at 1-1.

Kaylee Harris came on after a scoreless top of the fifth for the Patriots offense, and she worked around a single and a walk to get a strikeout, popout, and lineout to keep the score knotted at 1-1.

The Patriots got a two out double in the sixth, but were unable to cash it in. In the home half, the Rambelles found their offense, scoring five runs and putting the game out of reach. A wild pitch would score the first run, before two RBI walks and a two-RBI single would plate four more in the frame and eventually lead to a 6-1 win after the Patriots went scoreless in the seventh.

Lopez, Taryn Barney, and Megan Lau each recorded hits in game one, with Anna Elliott scoring their only run.

Kaylee Harris would collect the loss, moving her record to 1-1 on the season.

GAME TWO: UT Tyler 3 | #7 Angelo State 5

The Patriots again battled tough, including tying the game in the sixth inning, but another late rally provided the difference again for the Rambelles.

UT Tyler got things going in game two, getting an RBI single from Laci Berecochea in the first inning to lead 1-0. Kendall Selitzky would start the second game, but after a two run homer, a walk, hit by pitch, and a single, she would be chased from the game as Alli Kimball took over. She would get out of the jam, containing the damage to just the two runs.

Kimball kept things going in the second, getting a pair of strikeouts around a walk and a groundout. She added a 1-2-3 third, and then worked around a double in the fourth with a groundout, popout, and flyout to end the inning with a third consecutive zero.

The Patriots offense tied the game in their half of the fourth, getting three straight singles from Lau, Kaylee Cavazos, and the RBI from Lopez to make it 2-2 after four.

The Rambelles would break the tie in their half of the fifth scratching a run across via an error at shortstop before the Patriots threw out a second runner at the plate. They would answer in the top of the sixth, with Lopez reaching on her own error by the shortstop and bringing home Lau to even the game right back up, this time at 3-3.

In the home half, the Rambelles put together one final rally, delivering an RBI triple and then adding a second run via another error, giving them a two run lead.

UT Tyler would get a leadoff single in the seventh but were unable to move the runner and fell 5-3.

Kaylee Cavazos went 3-for-3 for the Patriots and scored a run. Laci Berecochea added a 2-for-4 day with an RBI.

Alli Kimball took her first loss of the season after going 5.2 innings in relief while striking out five and allowing just one earned run and three total runs.

UT Tyler gets back to work on Sunday, taking on UT Permian Basin on the road in Odessa in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
