As “The Sandlot” movie saying goes, “Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.” Such is the case for one beloved San Antonio ramen shop nestled on the city’s North Side – aptly dubbed Hero’s Ramen x Sushi.
According to a Wednesday update to its social media pages, the restaurant announced its imminent exit from the San Antonio food scene with a short note.
“Thank you for the years of support,” restaurant representatives wrote. “It saddens us to say we will be permanently closing on 3/5/2026.”
Established in San Antonio by Hiroyuki Kawashima in September 2019 at Embassy Oaks shopping center, the Japanese-owned ramen shop was created by the same culinary minds behind Ramen Bar Ichi in Houston.
While Hero’s vended various snacks, treats and plushies, the restaurant was known best for its creamy and savory tonkotsu broth.
“We strictly follow traditional Japanese cooking methods to make ramen soup,” the eatery’s site says. Kawashima claimed to use specific ingredients and methods, such as specially treated water and a pressure cooker, to achieve the broth’s specific texture, consistency and flavor.

“Since it is only us to use the pressure cooker in Texas state currently, our ramen soup’s thickness is obviously different from others. We make our ramen soup from scratch by hand every day,” the site says.
Of course, ramen fans couldn’t help but grieve the restaurant’s closure in the comments.
“OMG this was literally my favorite restaurant for the last few years,” wrote Instagram user @aldavelasco. “You guys had the best most authentic and savory ramen in town. im genuinely so upset to see you guys go :(“
“Noooooooooooo this is by far the best and the most authentic ramen in San Antonio for me 😢” added @_melsjournal.
The Express-News reached out to Hero’s for a comment on why the eatery closed its doors, but did not receive an immediate response.
