Among this year’s featured authors is the internationally renowned novelist and poet Julia Alvarez with her latest collection of poetry titled “Visitations.” Also in the lineup is San Antonio native actor Jeff Hiller, best known for his appearance in the HBO series “Somebody Somewhere,” with his memoir “Actress of a Certain Age: My Twenty-Year Trail to Overnight Success.”

“There truly is something for everyone from creative memoirs to serious history, from poetry to cooking. On the fiction side there is every genre, including horror, mystery and thriller, romance and romantasy, and so many more.” Lisa Ayres, executive director of the San Antonio Book Festival, said in a news release.

The free, family-friendly event is happening Saturday, April 11, at the Central Library and UT San Antonio Southwest Campus in downtown San Antonio. The event, which includes author presentations, panel discussions, book signings, food trucks and more, has drawn more than 22,000 attendees in the past.

For the first time this year’s event will kick off with a ticketed event on Thursday, April 9, at the Central Christian Church, featuring Jenna Bush Hager and Juliet Faithfull. Hager’s media company, Thousand Voices, recently partnered with Random House Publishing Group, which published Faithfull’s debut novel “Liar’s Dice.”

Also new this year, the festival will feature cookbook authors. San Antonio’s own Curry Boys restaurant chefs, Andrew Ho, Andrew Samia, and Sean Wen, will be promoting their brand-new cookbook, “Asian Smoke: Thai and Southeast Asian Barbecue from the Curry Boys.”

And Arnie Segovia, better known as ArnieTex, or everyone’s Tio, will bring his recent cookbook “ArnieTex: Over 100 Recipes for Mexican-American Cooking and Texas-Style BBQ.”

“I’m so excited to be back in San Antonio for this year’s book fest,” Segovia said in a statement. “Two of my biggest and favorite book tour events happened here in San Anto and I know this one will be great… Vamonos!”

The event will also include authors, presentations and events catering to children, teens and young adults, including an appearance by Tiffany Hammond with her  No. 1 New York Times bestselling picture book “A Day with No Words,” cartoonist and illustrator Zeke Peña and his Caldecott-honored, “Texas-set Sundust.”

“We work hard to build an author lineup that reflects San Antonio culture, and there will be discussions related to both local and national conversations,” said Anna Dobben, literary director of the San Antonio Book Festival.

“The Festival gives form to curiosity — we invite everyone to hear authors talk about their stories, and the stories behind their books,” she said.
