The No. 11 seed Alabama women’s basketball team saw its SEC tournament journey end Friday night, falling to No. 3 Texas in the quarterfinals. After a significant victory over No. 6 seed Tennessee, marking their first quarterfinal appearance since 2024, Alabama couldn’t overcome a dominant Texas team that never relinquished the lead.

Alabama briefly took a one-point lead early in the first quarter thanks to a 3-pointer from Ta’Mia Scott. However, Texas quickly responded with a 5-0 run, taking control of the game. The Longhorns capitalized on this momentum, closing the first quarter with a 14-5 surge, holding the Crimson Tide to just 10 points and establishing a 21-10 lead.

Texas continued to apply pressure, holding Alabama scoreless for the first 6:12 minutes of the second quarter while adding 14 points to extend their lead to 23. By halftime, the Longhorns had built a commanding 52-19 lead.

In the second half, the Crimson Tide displayed resilience despite the significant deficit, outscoring Texas 41-31. A 3-pointer by Texas at the start of the third quarter put Alabama at a 36-point disadvantage, but the Crimson Tide managed to reduce the margin to 30 by the end of the frame.

Alabama did everything they could in the second half, outscoring Texas 20-15 in the third and 21-16 in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough and the Longhorns secured an 83-60 victory to advance to the semifinals.

The Crimson Tide’s SEC tournament run may have come to an end, but they now await their fate for the NCAA Tournament. The selection show is scheduled for Sunday, March 15, at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN.
