⚠️2024: Hail hits Houston Rodeo.

As we track a severe weather threat of 2 out of 5 today—with more rain & thunderstorms possible the next several days.

That has a lot of folks wondering: could THIS happen again today?

⛈️Severe Weather Threat: 2 out of 5 — scattered severe storms possible, but usually short-lived or isolated. Intense ones can pop up!

✅Locally heavy rainfall
✅Damaging wind gusts
✅Hail

⏰Timeline(can shift, but morning outlook): 3 pm: West & northwest areas – 6 pm: North of I-10 – 10 pm: South of I-10 – Midnight: Near I-10.

We’re tracking a warm, muggy day—morning lows 70s, highs in the 80s (way above normal 71-77°F averages) ahead of a cold front which is why we have a severe weather risk as the air mases clash.

So getting back to the original question, but first:

Rodeo Forecast: By the Numbers: Saturdays draw 33% more crowds on average—especially with big concerts!
– 199,220 on Sat, March 22, 2025 (single-day record since 2003)
– 183,240 on Sat, March 15, 2025
– 173,202 on Sun, March 16, 2025

According to the Houstonia Magazine averages: weekends ~136,664 vs weekdays ~103,114.

Tonight’s Dwight Yoakam show means big crowds— on average high-profile concerts draw about 33% more people on average.

Our weather team’s watching Future cast/radar hard from 5–11 pm:
Potential cell west of Rodeo ~5 pm, east ~6 pm, another round ~10 pm.

After the 2024 hail scare, Rodeo added severe weather guidelines to the exhibitor handbook: Lightning seen or thunder heard?
Move indoors ASAP.

Sustained winds 25 mph: Secure loose items – 35+ mph: Move outdoor exhibits inside to pre-designated spots.

Tornado warning: Head to pre-designated shelter (lowest floor, interior, away from windows). No shelter? Lie flat in low spot & cover your head. KPRC reported in 2025: Command center pulls live data—wind speeds, lightning, radar, rain probs & more. Some rides even have sensors feeding real-time info to operators!

This set up doesn’t look to be as intense, however we need to keep a close eye on radar. Ill update you this morning and Daji will tonight.
