No. 22 Texas A&M (14-1) didn’t flinch heading into the final weekend before SEC play begins, taking on an Oakland team with just one victory on the year, while starters Chris Hacopian and Wesley Jordan continued to ride the bench with injuries, as coach Michael Earley hopes to have both back before the Aggies face Oklahoma on the road to open SEC play next weekend.
Due to inclement weather in College Station, the Aggies played a doubleheader on Friday, coming back from a 3-0 deficit to win 6-3 in Game 1, thanks to star outfielder Caden Sorrell’s hitting his seventh home run of the season to tie the game at 3-3 in the middle innings. In Game 2, A&M’s bats exploded for 11 hits and two home runs, winning 10-2 behind another bounce-back performance from Weston Moss on the mound.
Winning the series, Game 3, due to the weather, was moved up three hours to 11 a.m. on Saturday, and the time change did not have an effect on the Aggie offense, scoring six runs in the fourth inning, while Sorrell hit his eighth home run, recording three RBI on the day, and, is up to 28 on the year thus far. With 14 hits and three more home runs, Texas A&M‘s offense looks SEC-ready.
On the mound, Aiden Sims earned his third win, lasting five innings, allowing four hits and striking out four, while veteran reliever Josh Stewart matched Sims with four strikeouts to finish the game. Texas A&M will now head to Norman to face No. 12 Oklahoma to open conference play, starting on Friday night.
