TORONTO — Khris Middleton’s bank account just got a little lighter.

The Mavericks forward has been fined $25,000 for “throwing his mouthpiece in the direction of the spectator stands” during Thursday night’s 115-114 loss to the Orlando Magic, the NBA announced on Saturday.

The fine was levied by James Jones, the league’s executive vice president and head of basketball operations.

Middleton lost the ball in the third quarter with 6:55 remaining, leading to a turnover. He was guarded heavily by Magic guard Jalen Suggs and looked to two officials before he tossed his mouthpiece toward the Mavericks’ bench. The mouthpiece landed in front of a fan sitting courtside and slid toward the foot of Mavericks assistant coach Jay Triano.

Middleton received a technical foul for the incident and the subsequent fine, which is usually the case for throwing objects.

Middleton has averaged 12.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 11 games since he was acquired by the Mavericks on Feb. 5. in a trade with the Washington Wizards.

Earlier this season, Magic guard Desmond Bane was fined for “throwing the game ball with force” on two separate occasions in December and February.

The Mavericks (21-42) will continue their six-game road trip on Sunday in Toronto.
