SAN ANTONIO — Bill Miller Bar-B-Q is staying true to its mission of feeding people with a recent donation to a struggling aid program.
In response to funding cuts to Meals on Wheels San Antonio, the Alamo City-based barbecue chain stepped in with a $192,000 donation to keep the service going, according to Texas Public Radio.
Meals on Wheels provides meals, visits and safety checks to homebound seniors.
The nonprofit announced earlier this month it would suspend meal delivery services and a pet meal service for 350 Bexar County clients as a result of budget cuts from the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG).
“Both Bill Miller and Meals on Wheels have a common mission in feeding the San Antonio community. We eagerly stepped in to donate to a cause that so many depend on daily,” Bill Miller President and CEO Jim Egbert said in a statement.
It isn’t clear how long the barbecue chain’s donation will sustain the service.
