Jen Hatmaker coming to Lubbock after release of latest book, ‘Awake: A Memoir’

  • March 8, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – New York Times bestselling author, podcaster and speaker Jen Hatmaker is coming to Lubbock next month following the release of her latest book, Awake: A Memoir.

Watch our extended interview in the video above.

Awake: A Memoir opens with Hatmaker discovering her husband of 26 years voice-texting his girlfriend while lying next to her in bed. The memoir chronicles the end of that marriage, her reinvention and what she describes as “waking up” for the second half of her life.

About the event

“An Evening with Jen Hatmaker” is scheduled for Thursday, April 9, at Second Baptist Church, 6109 Chicago Ave. in Lubbock. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $50 per person. VIP seating is available for $75. A pre-show meet and greet, which includes light refreshments and a photo and book-signing opportunity, runs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for an additional $50. Copies of Awake will be available for purchase at the event in limited quantities.

What Hatmaker said

Hatmaker said the book and her live events have sparked a broader conversation about life after major change.

“It has created a real beautiful community around, and who are we now? And what do we want out of the second-half of life?” Hatmaker said. “It’s a very exciting conversation, and I’m thrilled to be in it with so many smart, brilliant women who are deciding to be the author of the second-half of their life.”

Hatmaker said the Lubbock stop holds personal significance for her.

“Lubbock has a real special place in my heart,” Hatmaker said. “My son went to Texas Tech … there’s some sort of secret sauce to the community that I really love and I’m surprised every time I go out there how loyal and deep even my community is that live in Lubbock.”

She said the event is open to all attendees, regardless of faith background.

“This is for everybody,” Hatmaker said. “If you are a church person, if you’re not, if you’re a person of faith, if you’re not, if you’re a woman, if you’re a man — this is really more like a community conversation.”

Hatmaker has published 15 books, including five New York Times bestsellers. She also hosts the “For the Love” podcast and leads the Jen Hatmaker Book Club. Awake: A Memoir was released Sept. 23, 2025.
