Texas softball completed its sweep of South Carolina Sunday as Hannah Wells became the third different Longhorns pitcher to pick up a win in the SEC-opening series

Wells, a freshman right-hander, gave up five hits and one run in 5⅔ innings during the Longhorns’ 5-2 victory Sunday in Columbia, S.C. Sophomore Cambria Salmon wrapped up the win and picked up the save while allowing one hit and one run in 1⅓ innings. Teagan Kavan won game one Friday and grabbed the save in Saturday’s second game. Citlaly Gutierrez earned the win in game two. As a staff, the No. 3 Longhorns (22-1, 3-0 SEC) allowed just 16 hits and four runs across 21 innings in the series.

Texas returns home Wednesday for a midweek nonconference game against East Texas A&M before returning to SEC play against Ole Miss over the weekend at McCombs Field.

The Longhorns scored only a total of 12 runs on 18 hits in the three games against the No. 23 Gamecocks (15-9, 0-3), but they made them count. In Sunday’s series-finale win, centerfielder Kayden Henry opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the top of the third and added another run in the fourth on a double by leftfielder Kaiah Altmeyer. Catcher Reese Atwood added a two-RBI single in the fourth to cap the Longhorns’ scoring.

South Carolina scored its runs on a throwing error by Atwood in the sixth inning and a solo homer from Kai Byars off Salmon in the seventh.
