COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -A 35-year-old woman in custody at the El Paso County Jail died Friday after being taken to a local hospital, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said the woman was receiving medical treatment at the jail around 1 p.m. when staff determined she needed additional care. Paramedics with AMR arrived shortly after and transported her to a hospital while a sheriff’s deputy provided security.
Officials said the woman was admitted to the hospital, but her condition worsened later in the evening. She died around 11:34 p.m.
The cause of death has not yet been determined.
Sheriff Joe Roybal has ordered an investigation into the incident. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division is handling the case.
An autopsy has also been requested from the El Paso County Coroner’s Office. The coroner will release the woman’s identity and determine the official cause and manner of death.
