FORT WORTH – No. 17 TCU bounced back with a 4-3 over Tulane in Game 2 of Sunday’s doubleheader to secure the series win. Preston Gamster homered and drove in three runs to lead the Horned Frogs offensively.
The Rundown
Tulane opened up a 2-0 lead in the first without the benefit of a hit. Aided by three walks and a hit batter, the Green Wave scored on a sacrifice fly and a passed ball.
TCU cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first. Sawyer Strosnider walked and stolen second. He scored easily on a Chase Brunson base hit to make it a 2-1 ballgame. The comeback was complete in the second. Brady Dallimore singled to lead off the inning and Preston Gamster delivered a two-run shot to right center to give the Frogs a 3-2 lead.
Gamster came through again for the Frogs in the fifth with a much-needed insurance run. With two on and two out, he executed a hit-and-run to give the Frogs a 4-2 lead.
Ethan Thomas (2-0) took over in the third and turned in three shutout innings. He finished his outing, allowing just two hits and striking out a season-high five.
Tulane had the first two on in each of the last two frames. Nate Stern wiggled off the hook in the sixth and Walter Quinn came out and retired three straight to end the game in the seventh for his second save of the season.
