LEANDER, Texas — Leander Mayor Pro Tem Na’Cole Thompson announced her candidacy for Mayor on Thursday, this coming after former Mayor Christine DeLisle officially resigned from her role with the city earlier this month.
Thompson announced her candidacy on social media on Thursday for the upcoming election on Feb. 7.
Thompson was elected to the Leander City Council in 2021 and re-elected in 2024, having been chosen unanimously as Mayor Pro Tem of the city three times.
“As your Mayor Pro Tem, I’ve worked to strengthem Leander’s foundation through responsible growth, strong partnerships, and community engagement,” Thompson said in her announcement. “Now, I’m running for Mayor to keep building on that progress—protecting what makes Leander special while planning for the future.”

Former Mayor DeLisle announced plans to resign during a September City Council meeting, and her last day on the job was on Thursday, Oct. 16.
“For everything there is a season, and recent personal and professional events have made clear that the season of my service is drawing to a close,” Mayor DeLisle wrote in her letter to the City. “I am deeply proud to say I have accomplished what I set out to do. I’m leaving the city with a strong, thoughtful, and compassionate Council, and an extraordinarily talented staff who are committed to collaboration and to doing what is best for our community as a whole.”
Leander’s special mayoral election is set for Feb. 7, with early voting beginning Jan. 26.
