HOUSTON — A woman was killed late Sunday in a wrong-way crash that injured two other drivers on Highway 6 North, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Gosney said deputies were dispatched around 11:01 p.m. to the incident on Highway 6 near Clay Road after reports of a major crash. Investigators determined that a driver was heading north in the southbound lanes when she hit another vehicle head-on in the middle lane.

The collision caused debris to hit two additional southbound vehicles, Gosney said.

Two drivers were taken to a hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. The woman driving the wrong way died at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.

Gosney said investigators have not determined whether speed or intoxication played a role in the crash. No passengers were involved, and no prior reckless driving history for the at-fault driver has been identified at this stage of the investigation.

The roadway remained closed while the medical examiner’s office conducted its assessment and wrecker crews cleared the vehicles. The wrong-way driver was believed to have been driving a Chevrolet Trax, which collided with a Dodge Charger before debris hit another Chevrolet Trax.

The crash remains under investigation.
