State Sen. Adam Hinojosa invites city leaders on Tuesday to discuss Evangeline groundwater project and future Coastal Bend water needs.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Sen. Adam Hinojosa is calling an urgent meeting between leaders from Corpus Christi and Sinton to address growing concerns over the region’s water supply.
In a press release, Sen. Hinojosa calls on a meeting on Tuesday, March 10, to focus on the proposed Evangeline Laguna groundwater project and broader water needs across the Coastal Bend.
Hinojosa said the goal is to bring both sides together to discuss concerns directly and find solutions that benefit both communities.
“Sinton and Corpus Christi are both vital parts of the Coastal Bend region,” Hinojosa said. “Our goal is to provide a venue and facilitate discussion so that both communities may benefit.”
Up to three representatives from each city have been invited to attend the meeting. The discussion will focus on reviewing terms that have already been exchanged and determining whether progress can be made in resolving disagreements over the project.
Hinojosa said both communities are raising legitimate concerns and emphasized the importance of communication.
“The best possible way to work through them is to communicate as neighbors who both care about the outcome for everyone,” he said.
The senator also stressed the meeting is not intended to pressure either city to give up its position, but instead to create a space for honest discussion.
“No one is being asked to give up their rights or their positions,” Hinojosa said. “What I am asking is that we take the time to sit down together and work through each concern face to face.”
Hinojosa added that elected leaders have a responsibility to work together to solve problems rather than allow disagreements to escalate.
“Too often disagreements turn into battles where the only real outcome is that attorneys get paid and everyone else loses,” he said.
The meeting will be facilitated by Hinojosa’s office in what he described as a neutral setting for discussion. Additional information is expected after the meeting takes place.
