Authorities recover a body near Surfside Beach after a Houston teenager went missing, with identification pending from the Galveston County Medical Examiner.

SURFSIDE BEACH, Texas — Authorities say a body has been recovered after a Houston teenager went missing in the water near Surfside Beach on Friday.

The teen was reported missing Friday afternoon after entering the water off the Brazoria County beach.

Multiple agencies joined the search effort over the weekend, including the United States Coast Guard, as crews worked to locate the missing swimmer.

Philip Hester, chief of the Surfside Beach Police Department, told KHOU 11 that a body has now been recovered in the area.

Officials say they are still waiting for the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office to officially identify the body.

Authorities have not yet released the teen’s name. The investigation remains ongoing.
