Chance Barrett is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Edgar Yudiel Granados.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police have made an arrest in connection with a 2024 homicide in northeast Austin.

According to the Austin Police Department (APD), the incident happened around 4 a.m. on July 12, 2024, in the 8200 block of Grayledge Drive. Officers responded to a report of a stabbing after a 911 caller said someone had been attacked and that the suspect ran from the scene.

When officers and Austin-Travis County EMS arrived, they found 31-year-old Edgar Yudiel Granados. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said on Monday that Chance Barrett, a former roommate of Granados, was initially arrested on Feb. 27, 2026, on an unrelated charge. On March 2, he was formally charged with first-degree murder in connection with Granados’ death.
