The Gregory-Portland Ladycats erupted for 19 hits and took advantage of eight Ray errors to roll past the Corpus Christi Ray Lady Texans 18-6 in a District 29-5A softball game Monday in Corpus Christi.
Gregory-Portland (18-6, 3-3 District 29-5A) broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning and continued to add on, scoring in five different innings while pulling away from the Lady Texans.
After Ray grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Ladycats responded with three runs in the second and never trailed again. Gregory-Portland added five runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and six more in the sixth before closing the scoring with three runs in the seventh.
Emily LaFavers led the offensive outburst for Gregory-Portland, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and seven RBIs. Emily Cameron also had a big night at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBIs.
Leanna Molina added three hits and two runs scored, while Carleigh Williams went 3-for-4. Lauren Bennett and Cadence Sandoval each collected two hits, with Bennett driving in two runs. Alyssa Padron added two hits and scored twice.
Courtesy runner Kylie Espinoza scored four runs for the Ladycats and stole two bases.
Gregory-Portland finished with 19 hits and left 10 runners on base.
LaFavers earned the win in the circle for Gregory-Portland. She pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits and six runs (five earned) while striking out 12 and walking eight.
G-P returns to 29-5A action on Wednesday when  it travel to Alice for a noon contest against the Lady Coyotes.
