The driver, who police said appeared to accelerate instead of brake, was not arrested. Police say no serious injuries were reported.
EULESS, Texas — A car crashed through the front windows of a barbershop Friday night at about 7 p.m. in Euless, narrowly missing several people, including a barber and his brother who were inside at the time, the shop’s owner said.
The incident occurred at Razor’s Edge Barber Shop as it was approaching closing time. Owner Jose Prieto said the damage was visible throughout the shop, with structural concerns still being assessed in the aftermath.
Barber Jimmy Arredondo Perez said his brother was seated in his chair when the car came through.
“It happened so quick, ” Perez said.
Security camera footage captured headlights appearing in the window, and an exterior camera showed the vehicle driving through the parking lot without stopping before striking the building.
The sudden impact left those inside momentarily uncertain about what had occurred.
“I thought, because we’re close to an airport, maybe a plane went down,” said owner Jose Prieto.
Arredondo Perez said he quickly moved to check on his brother after the crash.
“I kind of panicked,” he said. “I pulled him back a little bit, I said, ‘hey, are you OK?’ Gave him a quick hug on the back and make sure he was OK.”
Several clippers and shears were broken in the crash, and a couple of toolboxes were damaged. Prieto noted that one antique barber chair appeared to absorb the brunt of the impact — and remained standing.
“They don’t make these no more. This chair is like 120 years old. It’s solid as a rock.”
Prieto said they plan to stay open, even with the damage. Despite the losses, he said the material items are replaceable using his insurance. He said support from the community has been overwhelming. A different local barber shop offered Prieto space to use during cleanup operations.
“It was pretty touching, honestly,” Prieto said.
Prieto said the most meaningful way for the community to help is simply to come in.
“We’re not looking for no handouts. If you want to support us you just come by and get a haircut from us,” he said.
The Euless Police Department said the driver appeared to have accelerated instead of stopping. Authorities said the incident appears to have been an accident. The driver was not arrested, and no serious injuries were reported.
