The Dallas Cowboys have been looking for pass rushing help for quite some time. Jerry Jones and company were heavily rumored to be a front-runner to acquire Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders, but he got moved to the Baltimore Ravens.

With that being said, the Cowboys finally made their first move for a new pass rusher on Monday morning.

Green Bay Packers former first-round pick Rashan Gary was acquired in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round pick. Gary will immediately bring an upgrade to the Dallas pass rush.

Throughout his time with the Packers, Gary struggled with inconsistency. That ultimately led to Green Bay being open to trading him this offseason.

Despite the concerns about Gary’s consistency, the Cowboys are excited about the new addition. He will have a chance to be the piece that plugs the hole from the trade that sent Micah Parsons to the Packers last offseason.

Rashan Gary Breaks Silence After Being Traded to Cowboys

It didn’t take very long for Gary to make a post sharing his thoughts on social media. Most of his first message since being traded to Dallas was about Green Bay, but he also briefly made it clear that he’s excited about joining the Cowboys.

“Thank you, Green Bay. Grateful to the Packers organization, my teammates, and Packers nation for seven great years,” Gary wrote on X. “Appreciate all the love and support. Next stop- Dallas!”

He didn’t have much to say about Dallas, but that will be coming in the near future. For now, his final three words of the post were a clear message about being excited to be a member of the Cowboys.

What Will Rashan Gary Bring to the Dallas Defense?

Last season with the Packers, Gary played well throughout the first seven games of the season. He recorded 7.5 sacks during that time frame. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a single sack throughout the remainder of the year.

When all was said and done, the 28-year-old pass rusher totaled 45 tackles to go along with 7.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and a defended pass.

Throughout his seven-year tenure in Green Bay, Gary racked up 270 total tackles, 46.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries, and six defended passes in 106 games.

Gary will be asked to step up and become a key piece of the Dallas defense. He’s more than capable of being that type of player. Now, he’ll simply need to figure out how to do it week in and week out.

At his age, there is still plenty of time for him to become the star that many expected him to be when the Packers drafted him at No. 12 overall in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
