LUBBOCK, Texas (March 9, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University claimed a 6-1 home victory over Colorado Mesa University Saturday at Penny Gullo Tennis Center, as the Lady Chaparrals secured the doubles point and won five of six singles matches to improve to 6-3 on the season and remain unbeaten all-time against the Mavericks.

LCU opened the dual by sweeping doubles play. The first decision came from the No. 2 position, where Oshini Herath and Alexandra Luders posted a 6-4 victory over Catalina Ballon and Delia Maier to give the Lady Chaparrals early momentum. Moments later, Kristel Jativa and Ana Sofía Valero Treviño followed with a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles against Valentina Gonzalez and Sophie Hartman. The doubles point was clinched at the top flight, where the nationally ranked tandem of Andrea De Bernardo and AnaMaria Zoric (No. 17 nationally) edged Jade Brilhante and Devyn Rodriguez 7-6 (7-2), extending their winning streak to eight matches and improving to 7-0 this season at No. 1 doubles.

Singles play saw LCU quickly extend its lead. De Bernardo was first off the court at No. 1 singles, defeating Rodriguez 6-0, 6-2 to push the Lady Chaps ahead 2-0. Zoric followed shortly after at No. 2 singles, claiming a 7-5, 6-1 win over Gonzalez to stretch the advantage to 3-0 and extend her singles win streak to seven matches. At No. 3 singles, Herath added another straight-sets victory with a 6-1, 7-5 result against Brilhante, giving LCU a commanding 4-0 edge.

The match-clinching point came from Jativa at No. 4 singles, where she rallied past Maier in a tight contest, 7-5, 7-6 (6), securing the team victory and extending her personal win streak to six matches while improving to 6-0 in dual play this season. Valero Treviño added a dramatic three-set win at No. 5 singles, defeating Ballon 7-5, 3-6, 10-4 in a match tiebreak to give LCU its sixth point of the day. Colorado Mesa picked up its lone point at No. 6 singles, where Jane Steur outlasted Valero Treviño in a three-set match tiebreak.
Several players played key roles in the Lady Chaparrals’ victory. Zoric continued to lead the team in singles with a 13-6 overall record (7-1 in duals), while De Bernardo earned her fourth consecutive singles victory to move to 11-6 on the season. Jativa’s clinching win pushed her to 12-5 overall and maintained her perfect 6-0 mark in dual matches. In doubles, De Bernardo and Zoric remained unbeaten at the top spot this spring, while the pairing of Jativa and Valero Treviño recorded their team-leading ninth doubles win and second straight victory together.

With the win, LCU improved to 4-0 all-time against Colorado Mesa. The Lady Chaparrals will next return to the court March 22 when they travel to Durant, Oklahoma, for an 11 a.m. non-conference dual against Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
