AUSTIN, Texas — A man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a 2024 fatal stabbing after his arrest on an unrelated charge last month, Austin police said.
Chance Barrett, 26, was formally charged March 2 in the July 12, 2024, death of Edgar Yudiel Granados, 31, according to the Austin Police Department. Barrett was a former roommate of the victim, police said.

Barrett was booked into the Travis County Correctional Complex on Feb. 27 on charges of criminal mischief, resisting arrest and failure to identify as a fugitive with intent to give false information. He was also being held on an out-of-county misdemeanor charge.
Granados was found dead inside a residence in the 8200 block of Grayledge Drive at approximately 4:02 a.m. on July 12, 2024, after officers responded to a report of a stabbing. The initial 911 caller reported that someone had been stabbed and a subject had fled the scene, police said. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services also responded, but Granados was pronounced dead at the scene.
