Lubbock High hosts Amarillo Caprock, 7 p.m.

  • October 24, 2025

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Lubbock High Westerners will appreciate home-field advantage this evening, as they welcome in the Caprock Longhorns from Amarillo. Last week, Caprock denied Coronado its first victory of the season with a 36-26 win. Head coach Juan Rodriguez says his team used that game to better study and prepare for this evening.

“I think one of the things that we took away from that is some of the schemes that they did, we were able to prepare a little bit better for the defense that we maybe want to run tomorrow,” he said. “…So, we were able to kind of pick but some of those, not necessarily tendencies, but some of those rules and techniques that they plan to use.”

While the Westerners are led by quarterback Zach Reyna and running backs Bo Davis and Anthony Boyd, the Longhorns have QB Juan De La Cruz, along with RB’s Xavier Vargas and Ernesto Alvarado- the same backfield that guided them to victory last week against Coronado.

“They’ve got some big boys up front, and I think it’s one of those where they use their system and their scheme well, and they do a good job of finding ways to give their kids an opportunity to be successful. They do a good job,” said Coach Rodriguez.

The Westerners have fared better this year at Lowrey Field, and Coach Rod says tonight’s game will give Lubbock High a better chance to follow through on its game plan- than what they were able to do last week in Abilene.

“Some of the things that we prepared for the week before against Abilene, but we’re now going to have a better chance to hopefully execute some of the stuff that we want to do against some of those schemes moving forward.”

The game will be streaming on KCBD.com, and on the KCBD Connected TV app.
