AUSTIN, Texas — Airports across the country are still navigating the strain of a partial government shutdown that began last month. Staffing shortages and funding gaps are causing travel headaches for passengers.

With South by Southwest getting underway and spring break, the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is preparing for one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Airport officials say they are not expecting delays from the shutdown, but there is still a chance they could occur. Over the weekend, federal officials reported significant delays at airports across the country and in Texas. Peak wait times stretched to three and a half hours at Houston’s Hobby Airport. At AUS, officials say security lines have remained steady.

Despite these challenges, AUS officials say they are prepared to handle the crowds. Officials say additional staff will be present to manage lines and answer questions. You can check wait times at AUS through the My TSA app. Airport officials still urge you to arrive at least two and a half hours early for domestic flights and three hours early for international ones.
