The Texas Tech Red Raiders could have a breakout playmaker on their hands this fall if early comments from quarterback Brendan Sorsby are any indication.

During a recent interview, Sorsby was asked about some of the offensive weapons he’s been working with since arriving in Lubbock. When the conversation turned to wide receiver Micah Hudson, the signal caller didn’t hesitate to offer glowing praise.

“As far as the answer everybody wants to hear, Micah Hudson looks phenomenal,” Sorsby said. “You know, he’s a great kid. It’s been really fun getting to know him.”

The comments are encouraging for Texas Tech fans who have been waiting to see Hudson’s immense talent translate consistently onto the field. The former five-star recruit arrived in Lubbock with massive expectations as one of the most highly touted prospects the program had ever landed. His blend of size, speed, and explosiveness made him one of the most coveted wide receiver recruits in the country coming out of high school.

So far, however, Hudson’s on-field production hasn’t quite matched the hype.

Across his two-year career, Hudson has recorded 16 receptions for 235 yards and two touchdowns, solid numbers but far from the kind of breakout many expected when he first arrived at Texas Tech. Injuries, adjustments to the college game, and a crowded receiver room have all played a role in slowing that early momentum.

Still, the potential has never been in question.

Hudson’s physical tools remain elite, and if things start to click this offseason, he could quickly become a centerpiece of the Red Raiders’ passing attack. With a new quarterback in Sorsby building chemistry with the receiving corps, there’s an opportunity for roles to be reshaped heading into the upcoming season.

If Hudson is able to take that next step, he has the talent to emerge as the WR1 for Texas Tech this fall. The Red Raiders have long been known for their explosive passing offenses, and a fully unlocked Hudson would give the unit a dynamic playmaker capable of stretching defenses and creating big plays.

For now, it’s just spring optimism. But when a quarterback publicly singles out a receiver the way Sorsby did, it’s usually a sign that something is brewing.

Texas Tech fans have been waiting for the Micah Hudson breakout.

This fall might finally be the time it happens.
