MARTIN COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – One person was killed and another injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning in Martin County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Officials report that the crash happened around 6:30 a.m. on March 9 at the intersection of State Highway 349 and County Road 4800.
DPS said Samuel Jones Lokadoo, 46, of Lubbock, was driving a 2010 Mercedes northbound on SH 349 when his vehicle was struck head-on by a 2010 Cadillac SRX.
Investigators said the Cadillac, driven by Francisco Alex Ramos Velasquez, 21, of Lubbock, was traveling southbound on SH 349 when it veered onto the rumble strips. Authorities said the driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to enter the northbound lanes and collide with the Mercedes.
Lokadoo was pronounced dead at the scene, according to DPS, and Velasquez was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, DPS said.
The crash remains under investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
