SAN ANTONIO—The UTSA softball team will look to keep the momentum going, as they are set to visit Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Chapman Field on Wednesday, with a 4 p.m. bout on the docket, before hosting Memphis in a three-game American Conference series spanning Friday through Sunday.

The Roadrunners (14-11, 3-0 American) are riding a four-game winning streak, after besting the Islanders, 12-5, last Wednesday, ahead of a three-game sweep over Tulsa. It was UTSA’s first series sweep since topping Southern Mississippi four times in Conference USA play in 2021, and the program’s first sweep to open league play since taking down UAB thrice in 2019.

Redshirt sophomore Makayla Madrid was awarded American Player of the Week honors after maintaining a .467 batting average to go with an OPS of 1.567. Madrid drove in six runs for the squad, launching two home runs and three doubles. Freshman Arlette Hernandez got the job done in the circle, tossing two complete-game victories over the Golden Hurricane, fanning 14 over 14 innings of work.

The Islanders (5-20, 0-3 Southland) will look to snap a five-game skid, as they were swept by UIW after falling to the Roadrunners. Skylar Hedges remains TAMUCC’s top hitter, with an average of .306 and 12 RBIs. Kendra Winfrey tops the team with four wins in the circle and 31 strikeouts, while Josie Whitehead is the only other squad member with a win.

The Tigers (7-16, 0-3 American) were unable to come away with a victory against South Florida and will take on North Alabama on Wednesday before battling the ‘Runners. The series will begin on Friday at 6 p.m. at Roadrunner Field, before a Saturday showdown at 1 p.m. and the finale on Sunday at noon.

Paris Brienesse leads Memphis with a .370 batting average, while Ariel Davis hits .368 with a team-best 12 RBIs. Faith Brown and Mya Clark join her with double-digit RBI totals, as Brown has driven in 11 and Clark 10.

Five different pitchers have picked up wins for the Tigers, with Jericho Tate pacing the group with a 5.05 ERA. She’s fanned 12 on the year, three less than Averay Struts, who’s matches her with a 2-4 record in the circle.
