A North Texas man faces a felony charge after being accused of tampering with his entry during a fishing tournament Sunday.

Curtis Lee Daniels was competing in the Lake Fork Lure Co. Tournament in Wood County when a metal detecting wand showed a possible foreign object in his bass, officials with the Texas Game Wardens said in a news release on Facebook.

Staff contacted the wardens, who conducted a necropsy and found three weights in the fish’s stomach. The weights didn’t show any signs of corrosion, according to the release, and authorities also found weights of the same size and style in Daniels’ boat.

The Willow Park man was booked into the Wood County Jail, but has since bonded out, according to online jail records.

Daniels faces a charge of violating fishing tournament law. The offense is sometimes a Class A misdemeanor, but was upgraded in this case to a third-degree felony because the tournament’s prize value was more than $10,000, Texas Game Wardens said.
