Tanya Cypert was a loving and supportive mother who always put her family first, according to her family and friends.
The 53-year-old Cypert died at Medical City Arlington hospital about 2:15 p.m. Friday, less than two hours after a Mercedes-Benz smashed into her Hyundai Tucson at the intersection of South Cooper Street and Eden Road.
“Her loss is deeply felt by everyone who knew her,” friend Karen Arce wrote in a GoFundMe.
Cypert’s two sons told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV that their mother was on her way to get food when the crash occurred. Her French bulldog, who was in the SUV with her, was also killed.
“It was just a normal day and then in the blink of an eye…” her son Chance Cypert said to WFAA.
Arlington police have said that speed may have been a factor in the crash. They’re also investigating if the Mercedes’ driver was participating in a street race just prior to the collision.
The driver of the Mercedes was injured and is recovering at a local hospital. Investigators haven’t been able to speak with him yet, Arlington Police Department spokesperson Tim Ciesco said in an email Tuesday.
“Our Crash Investigators are still in the process of reviewing evidence, which will help them determine whether criminal charges are appropriate in this case,” Ciesco said.
Surveillance video from a local business obtained by KDFW-TV shows two black cars traveling northbound on South Cooper Street at a high rate of speed. Cypert’s white Hyundai prepares to make a left-hand turn. Seconds later, white smoke can be seen from the collision.
The Hyundai’s engine landed around 300 yards from the crash site, Chance Cypert told WFAA. He hopes the fatal accident will remind drivers to use more caution on the roads.
“Think about other people before you make these decisions,” Chance Cypert said.
The GoFundMe will help cover Tanya Cypert’s funeral expenses and support her sons. Nearly $11,800 toward a $13,000 goal had been raised by Tuesday afternoon.
