AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department is ramping up its DWI enforcement efforts to coincide with Spring Break and the Spring Festival.

The initiative, which began on March 6, 2026, will continue each night through March 22, 2026, according to a press release from the department. Additional officers will be deployed to make traffic stops and encourage safe driving behaviors. The effort aims to enforce DWI laws, promote responsible decision-making among drivers, and apply for blood search warrants for suspects arrested for DWI who refuse to provide a breath or blood specimen as required by law.

Austin Police, in collaboration with the Texas Department of Transportation and Austin Transportation, remain focused on preventing fatalities on the streets, highways, and waterways of Austin. The department is committed to ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors through education and enforcement.

As a reminder, the APD DWI No Refusal Initiative is in effect year-round between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., Monday through Sunday.
