AUSTIN, Texas — Three children were killed early Wednesday morning in an apartment fire in Southeast Austin, according to the Austin Fire Department.
AFD said the call came in around 12:50 a.m. for an apartment fire off Burleson Road near Oltorf Street. When crews arrived, fire was coming from multiple windows of one apartment.
Three other people — two adults and one child — were taken to the hospital and are in critical condition, AFD said. The three who were hospitalized were outside and told firefighters there were still people inside the apartment. AFD said the victims were members of the same family. One firefighter suffered minor burns.
One crew began extinguishing the fire while a second crew searched the apartment, AFD said. The fire was quickly put out and did not spread beyond the unit where it started.
“Fire was confined and contained to one apartment, the apartment of origin, the no other apartments were affected by fire or have fire damage,” AFD Division Chief Wayne Parrish said.
