Good morning, Texas. Here’s what you need to know today.

Your Weather Planner

Some storms will persist into Wednesday, primarily along and east of Interstate 35. Throughout the day, conditions will gradually improve, leading to another warm day in the 70s and 80s. However, a cold front will move through Texas through the evening, causing a drop in temperatures on Thursday. Despite this, warmer and drier conditions are expected through the weekend before another cool-down early next week.

Around Texas

1. Wildfires, screwworm epidemic impact ranchers and beef supply in Texas

According to a Texas A&M University agricultural expert, consumers may continue to see high beef prices at the store for some time as the cattle supply continues to take hits from the recent wildfires and the screwworm parasite blocks beef imports from Mexico. However, despite the current beef shortage, he says the future outlook is promising for “both ranchers and consumers.”

2. Heart-crosses honor victims of Austin shooting at makeshift memorial outside Buford’s

It has been over a week since the shooting that killed three people and injured more than a dozen. The bar, Buford’s, in downtown Austin has officially reopened, but a makeshift memorial outside continues to grow.

Lutheran Church Charities’ (LCC) Hearts of Mercy & Compassion ministry (HMC) brings painted wooden hearts and crosses to people in heartbreaking circumstances. Volunteers go all over the country, visiting the places where devastation has hit. The organization brings physical symbols of mercy and compassion to the families whose lives will never be the same. Volunteers with the group have left symbols of hope and support all over Texas over the years.

3. Texas consumers, oil experts weigh ‘uncertain’ future of gas prices

North Texans are feeling the weight of higher prices at the pump and the uncertainty surrounding oil and gas prices as the war in the Middle East continues.

Some drivers said they’re monitoring rising crude oil and gas prices, and they plan on making some tough financial decisions as needed. As gas prices climb, optimism is low for some consumers hitting the pumps.

Early spring wildflower season in Texas could be light, but don’t rule out late-season blooms

You’ve seen the weather forecast, but what about a wildflower forecast? While horticulture experts with the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin are predicting less wildflowers early in the season due to drought conditions throughout the state, that doesn’t mean there won’t be plenty of chances to see showstopping blooms.
