A Fire Engine responds to the scene of an emergency.
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Three children are dead after an apartment fire in Austin early Wednesday morning.
The Austin Fire Department was called before 1 a.m. to an apartment complex in the 2500 block of Burleson Road, just a few miles southwest of the Texas State Capitol.
When crews arrived they were met by flames and smoke, and it took at least two hours to knock down the fire. Once crews had gained control, three children were found dead inside. Three others, including an additional child, were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Numerous residents were evacuated from the complex, and around 30 units have residents now displaced.
There is no word on the cause of the fire, which is under investigation.
