LEAKEY, Texas – Severe storms that swept through the Texas Hill Country left a trail of damage in Real County, where hail and high winds battered parts of Leakey and forced at least one local business to close.

At Dora’s Nursery, hail from the storm was still visible on the ground hours later. The damage was so extensive that the nursery shut down for the day as cleanup continued.

Owner Sylvia Bryant said the storm was unlike anything she has seen in the area.

“We’ve never seen anything like this here. It was just wind, and just the hail was just so big and so powerful. It was scary. It was scary,” Bryant said.

No injuries were reported at the business during the storms, but Bryant said the destruction was difficult to take in.

“My family built this from the ground up, and just to see it gone like this, it’s very heartbreaking,” Bryant said.Comment with Bubbles

Bryant said insurance will cover only some of the damage to the business and will not cover all of the plants that were destroyed. She asked customers to be patient as the nursery works to recover, and said they hope to reopen soon.
