▪ What else to know: Nana — aka Toshia Ramsey — has been serving up soul food on the east side for about eight years now. Not long after the restaurant opened, Eats Beat columnist Bud Kennedy called Nana’s “one of the best” for great home-cooking. Of course, loyal customers already knew that, flocking in for hearty meatloaf and smothered pork chops. Nana’s was recently called the best soul food in Texas.
“With sides such as old-school Velveeta mac-and-cheese or greens with ham hocks, a Nana‘s dinner can turn into a family dinner,” Kennedy wrote. Other entrees ($18 to $23) include chicken fired chicken, country fried steak, catfish (whole or filet) and fried shrimp. Those come with two sides, including black-eyed peas, cabbage, sweet corn or mashed potatoes. The menu also has wings.
On Sundays, Nana’s serves up chicken and waffles, beef tips and rice, smothered turkey wings and oxtail.
And just last month, the restaurant started serving Saturday brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Nana’s Kitchen is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Other days, the hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (6 p.m. on Sunday).
