Looking for fun spring break activities to spark your children’s creativity?

Fort Worth-area museums, libraries and others are bringing out their craft supplies and welcoming beloved fictional characters to welcome the season. 

Here are a few free and low-cost activities to consider for your little ones:

Party with Pete the Cat at multiple Fort Worth libraries 

The famous children’s book character will stop by for special story times, photos and crafts. Guests are invited to shine their buttons and polish their white shoes.

Introduce family to classical music at ‘Cliburn Kids on the Road’

Artists with the Cliburn will present a 45-minute interactive program at Fort Worth libraries that blends music, storytelling and word games. The free events are intended for all ages.

4-4:45 p.m. March 16 – East Regional Library
2-2:45 p.m. March 18 – Southwest Regional Library
4-4:45 p.m. March 20 – Clifford Crossing Library

Listen to powerful voices at ‘Fort Worth Opera in the Community’

Singers with the Fort Worth company will perform a new piece “Anam the Witch & Beatrice the Beautiful.” The opera is based on a Mexican folktale and is sung in English and Spanish. Admission is free.

Flutter by at ‘Butterflies in the Garden’

The Fort Worth Botanic Garden’s signature butterflies exhibition is back, bringing families face-to-face with native and exotic species from around the globe.

When: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. daily through April 30

Where: Fort Worth Botanic Garden, 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd.

Admission: $0-$12

Explore new TCU Children’s Gallery at Fort Worth museum

The children’s gallery reopened March 9 with renovations funded by Texas Christian University. The space, which has been open since 2009, is designed for hands-on, enriching activities for young children. 

When: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday; noon-5 p.m. Sunday

Where: Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, 1600 Gendy St.

Admission: $12-$16

Roam Earth with the dinosaurs at ‘Prehistoric Park’

Learn about Grapevine’s past while roaming through an exhibition of animatronic dinosaurs. Hands-on activities include digging through sites, playing boneyard games and crafting fossils. 

When: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. March 14-29

Where: Meadowmere Park & Campground, 3000 Meadowmere Lane, Grapevine

Admission: $29 per vehicle

Search for hidden treasures at ‘Brain Bean Buddies’ 

Meow Wolf Grapevine’s spring break party features hidden “Brain Beans” throughout the immersive exhibition. Guests can complete a photo scavenger hunt, solve a plant-themed crossword and get creative in paper-making workshops. 

When: 9 a.m.-11 p.m. March 14-21; 9 a.m.-10 p.m. March 22

Where: Meow Wolf Grapevine, 3000 Grapevine Mills, Grapevine

Admission: $46-$48

Learn about Hispanic traditions at Artes Academy Spring Break Camp

Artes de la Rosa in Fort Worth’s Northside is hosting its Artes Academy spring break workshops for children and teens. Participants will learn about classic Mexican folklore and to create their own original monster tales. The week concludes with a student showcase. 

When: 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. March 16-20

Where: Artes de la Rosa, 1440 N. Main St.

Admission: $125 for all days

Enjoy free admission during Art Break at the Modern

Slow down and learn about key pieces in the Modern’s permanent collection and special exhibition “Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers.” Families will also enjoy workshops led by instructors Joshua Bryant, Xxavier Carter, Aliyah Cydonia, Tuba Koymen and Doug Land.

When: 11 a.m.-3 p.m. March 16-20

Where: Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St.

Admission: Free

Feel inspired at the Kimbell’s ‘Spring Break Art Extravaganza’

Families can enjoy a variety of creative activities, including art making, gallery tours and story times in English and Spanish. 

When: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. March 17-20

Where: Kimbell Art Museum, 3333 Camp Bowie Blvd.

Admission: Free

Say cheese at ‘Spring Break at the Carter: Focus on Photos’

Take snapshots during the Amon Carter Museum of American Art’s weeklong event that includes gallery games and activities. The events are inspired by the museum’s latest exhibition, “Black Photojournalism.”

When: 1-4 p.m. March 17-20

Where: Amon Carter Museum of American Art, 3501 Camp Bowie Blvd.

Admission: Free
