Familiarity breeds contempt
These teams play 2,000 miles apart from each other, but you’d have trouble finding anyone from either side who wouldn’t call it a rivalry. Dallas and Edmonton have met up eight times in the playoffs, the Stars owning five of those eight series…
…But Edmonton’s taken the last two big ones. The Oilers have ended the Stars’ season in each of the past two seasons, both times in the “Final 4″ of the Western Conference Finals.
With both teams slated to make the playoffs again this season, a third straight conference finals rematch wouldn’t be much of a surprise.

Stars have to hope they didn’t use up all their goals in the last matchup.
Dallas exploded for an eight-goal drubbing of the Oilers the last time these two teams met up in November, a game that started with a four-goal first-period onslaught by the Stars.
The game also featured a milestone goal for Jamie Benn, who scored tally No. 400 in the matchup.
Gameplan around him
Edmonton’s Connor McDavid is in one of those stretches where opposing teams just have to hope to contain him. Glen Gulutzan has surely spent the last couple days gameplanning for such.
McDavid enters Thursday’s contest riding an eight-game point streak, collecting 15 points (2 goals, 13 assists) during that span. Six of his last eight games have been multi-point outings. In all, McDavid has totaled 110 points (36, 74) through 65 games this season, leading both the team and all NHL skaters in scoring.
