SAN MARCOS — A sacrifice fly in the third inning proved to be enough as Sam Houston fell a closely contested midweek game to Texas State at Bobcat Softball Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bearkats (16-12) managed five hits but left seven runners stranded. Sam Houston did get a pair of runners on in the seventh thanks to singles by Lydia Njus and Kinsey Hobbs only to see the Bobcats get out of the jam.
Kendall Daniel and Makenzi Jenkins pitched well in the circle.
Daniel took the loss despite only allowing four hits in three innings as Texas State scratched across the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third. Jenkins allowed two hits in three innings and posted two strikeouts.
The Bearkats return home Friday to open a three-game CUSA series with NM State at Bearkat Softball Complex with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
