Police said they are aware of social media posts suggesting the firearm was displayed during or after a fight on campus, but said that information is false.
EVERMAN, Texas — A student was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after Everman police recovered a handgun on the campus of Everman High School, prompting a brief lockdown, authorities said.
Shortly after 2 p.m., a student approached a school resource officer and reported that they believed another student on campus had a firearm, police said in a news release. The campus was immediately placed on lockdown, and emergency safety procedures were put in place, authorities said.
Per Everman Police, officers worked with campus and district administrators to identify and locate the suspected student, who was then taken into custody, and recover the handgun.
Police did not identify the juvenile EHS student, but said appropriate criminal charges will be pursued.
Police added too that they are aware of social media posts suggesting the firearm was displayed during or after a fight on campus, but said that information is false. Investigators said there is no evidence the weapon was displayed or used during any altercation, and that, while there was a fight that happened on campus on Wednesday, it was a separate and unrelated incident.
“We are proud of the swift actions taken by the student who reported the concern, as well as the immediate response by our School Resource Officers and campus administrators,” Everman PD said in a statement.
