LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Lubbock ISD has begun the demolition of O.L. Slaton Middle School to make way for a new elementary school at the site near 32nd St. and Ave. Q.
Demolition crews started tearing down the O.L. Slaton building Wednesday as part of a broader campus consolidation plan approved by bond voters last year.
Voters approved the consolidation of five campuses into three new schools. Each of the three new buildings will serve students from existing campuses.
Students from Bean Elementary will move to the new school being built at the former O.L. Slaton site at 32nd and Ave. Q.Students from Stewart and Williams elementaries will move to a new combined school at the current location of Williams Elementary, near Utica Avenue and 58th St.Students from Wolffarth and McWhorter elementaries will move to a new school at the site of the vacant Matthews building, near N. University Ave. and Akron Ave.
All three schools are planned to open for the start of the 2028-2029 school year in August 2028.
