San Antonio police say it’s possible at least one of the suspects hit both Lex Space Texas in January and Thrift at the Warehouse in the Pearl District in February.
SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police are calling on the public to keep an eye out for suspected burglars based on surveillance images just released involving two separate incidents.
Police are asking for the community’s help in identifying two individuals suspected of breaking into a thrift shop within the Pearl District. Investigators believe at least one of the people caught on camera may also be responsible for another break-in at a nearby business a couple months ago.
Paul Francis, who owns Lex Space Texas off Lexington Avenue, said a lone suspect smashed a window and slipped inside the building late one night in January.
Lex Space Texas is a warehouse used by artists and designers. Surveillance video shows the man leaving with Francis’ bike, and other footage provided to police shows him taking several tools. Francis estimates the total value of the stolen items at more than $2,500.
“I thought it was devastating that this could happen,” Francis said. “This is the second time it happened in less than a month.”
Francis said he was especially frustrated to learn another nearby business was also targeted.
“I think I was even more upset that my neighbors down the street got broken into,” Francis said.
On Feb. 19, Thrift at the Warehouse in the Pearl was broken into around 3:30 a.m.
According to a social media post from the thrift store, the suspects smashed windows and stole cash registers and phones before leaving the scene.
One suspect has a tattoo above his left eyebrow and tattoos on the back of his hands. Another suspect whose face is covered, could have a tattoo along the outside of his right forearm.
Francis says break-ins like this can take a heavy toll on small businesses trying to protect their property and support the people who work there.
“It hurts when it’s your business and you’re working hard for it and you’re trying to protect other people in the building,” Francis said. “Then you have to worry about people breaking in, damaging your property and stealing your property.”
Police are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect to contact San Antonio Police.
“I hope they catch this individual and I hope justice is served.”
