The Dallas Stars aren’t in a good way right now, though if you ask their head coach they’re starting to pull themselves out of it.
The good news is that there could be some reinforcements on the way.
Stars forward and captain Jamie Benn has missed the start of the season after suffering a collapsed lung in a preseason game in September. Benn required surgery, and at the time the team said he would be reevaluated in four weeks.
Stars GM Jim Nill made an appearance on The K&C Masterpiece on 105.3 The Fan on Friday where he offered an update on Benn’s status, saying that the 36-year-old has made his return to the ice and is in the process of healing.

“Jamie Benn skated today, which is good news,” Nill told The Fan. “He worked hard. So it’s really just healing for him, then getting himself back up to speed. But it’s good to see him out on the ice.”
Benn played in 80 games last season, scoring 16 goals and adding 33 assists. When he returns to game action this season, he’ll be one score away from logging career goal No. 400.
Nill also gave brief updates on other injured players for the Stars. Matt Duchene, who’s missed three games after taking a big hit in a game against the Wild, is still day-to-day, Nill says, and saw a specialist before skating on Friday. Center Oskar Back is also “getting close” to a return.
The Stars take on the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday looking to snap the team’s four-game losing streak.
