SAN ANTONIO — A Bexar County deputy’s routine patrol Thursday afternoon helped prevent a potential kidnapping

The incident happened around 1 p.m. along Highway 281 North near the St. Mary’s Street onramp.

The deputy noticed several individuals signaling for help and immediately stopped to investigate., according to Bexar County Precinct 1 Constable Ruben C. Tejeda.

Witnesses at the scene reported that a suspect had attempted to remove an infant from the back seat of a vehicle while the mother was pulled over attending to her child. The mother managed to secure her infant and flag down passing motorists, who helped her until law enforcement arrived.

The deputy detained the suspect at the scene, and the individual was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation. Charges are expected to be filed with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office following the completion of that evaluation.

Authorities also reported a traffic accident that occurred during the mother’s efforts to alert other drivers, which is under investigation by the San Antonio Police Department.
