Texas A&M(21–19, 11–7 SEC) officially has its opponent for the second round of the SEC Tournament. The Oklahoma Sooners (18–14, 7–11 SEC). The matchup is set for Thursday night in Nashville, where the Aggies will try to beat the Sooners for the third time this season.
That’s never an easy task. Beating any team three times in a year is a challenge, and both previous meetings were competitive. Still, A&M found ways to close each game and held Oklahoma’s leading scorer, Nijel Pack, to just six total points across the two contests. After a mid‑season lull, the Aggies are rediscovering their rhythm—led by Rashaun Agee, recently named to the All‑SEC Third Team and now the program’s single‑season leader with 12 double‑doubles.
The SEC Tournament presents a unique dilemma for Texas A&M. Their physical, high‑effort style can take a toll, something that became clear midway through league play and prompted head coach Bucky McMillan to adjust practice intensity for better recovery. Playing on consecutive days in Nashville could add wear and tear at the exact moment the Aggies want to be fresh for a deep NCAA Tournament run.
But you can’t tell competitors not to compete. When asked about the balance between the SEC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament looming around the corner, every player and coach gave the same answer. They’re here to win a championship.
Even with a 95% chance to make the NCAA Tournament, a win on Thursday would all but seal the Aggies’ bid. Any victories beyond that would strengthen their résumé and help determine seeding for Selection Sunday.

This 2026 Texas A&M team has already exceeded expectations after entering the season with zero returning offensive production, a late start in the transfer portal, and a preseason projection of 13th in the SEC.
