Dallas police said officers shot and killed a barricaded suspect after he exited his vehicle and pointed a gun at officers.

DALLAS — Dallas Police shot and killed a suspect in the parking garage of Dallas children’s hospital, officials say.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, the Dallas Police fugitive task force was working surveillance on a suspect whom they followed to the parking garage of Children’s Medical Center Dallas in the 1900 block of Medical District Drive, Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said in a press conference.

Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, who then barricaded himself in his car, police said. SWAT officers were then called to the scene, officials said.

Tear gas and other methods were used to get the suspect to exit the vehicle, Comeaux said. When the suspect exited the vehicle, he allegedly pointed a gun at officers, who then shot the suspect.

Officers attempted to aid the suspect, but he died on the scene, police said.

The department is expected to release more information on the shooting in the coming days, according to its policy.

The incident remains under investigation.
