Texas A&M enters its SEC opener against the Oklahoma Sooners this weekend as one of the top leaders in team batting average.

The Aggies‘ .344 mark ranks eighth among all Division I baseball teams through March 11. That average also ranks third in the SEC, entering the first weekend of conference play. Texas A&M has secured 144 RBI and blasted 32 home runs so far this season, while outscoring opponents 62-11 in the last five contests.

Michael Earley’s club will look to keep the bats hot this weekend in Norman, against the Sooner bullpen, which has a 2.96 batting average through its first 17 games of the year.

Texas A&M is off to its best start since 2024, when the Aggies went 18-0 entering conference play against No. 8 Florida and finished the season battling for the NCAA Championship against Tennessee in Omaha. While many questions remain in the Aggie bullpen, the team’s success at the plate is a marked improvement over last year’s struggles.

Right fielder Caden Sorrell leads starters with a .407 batting average in what’s been an impressive start to his junior campaign for the Highland Village, Texas, native. Sorrell has driven in 28 RBI and mashed eight homers in 14 appearances in the lineup. His success at the plate will be integral against OU’s impressive pitching staff, which features right-hander LJ Mercurius, who ranks first in the league with a .039 ERA and a team-best 34 strikeouts through four games for the Sooners.
